A considered approach to RF microneedling

RF microneedling combines two approaches to skin treatment: microneedling and radiofrequency energy.

During treatment, fine needles enter the skin at a controlled depth, delivering radiofrequency energy into the targeted tissue. The resulting controlled heating response is intended to encourage processes involved in collagen remodelling and skin repair.

This may support gradual improvements in skin texture, firmness and the appearance of certain lines or scars.

RF microneedling is different from conventional microneedling, which does not deliver radiofrequency energy. It is also not a laser treatment. Each technology works differently and may be appropriate for different skin concerns.

The depth of the needles, energy settings and treatment area all influence how the procedure affects the skin. More intensive treatment does not automatically produce a better result and may increase the risk of unwanted effects.

At Esti-Med, treatment is planned around your skin, its individual characteristics and what you would realistically like to improve.

What may it help with?

RF microneedling may be considered for certain concerns involving skin texture, firmness and the appearance of superficial changes associated with ageing or previous skin damage.

  • Uneven skin texture
  • Fine lines and crepey-looking skin
  • Reduced skin firmness
  • Certain types of post-acne scarring
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Selected areas of stretch marks

The most appropriate approach depends on the nature and depth of the concern, the area being treated and whether RF microneedling is suitable for your skin.

GOOD TREATMENT BEGINS WITH GOOD JUDGEMENT

Is this right for you?

RF microneedling may be suitable if you are concerned about uneven skin texture, reduced firmness, fine lines or certain types of textural scarring.

Suitability depends on your skin type, medical history, medication, previous treatments and the area being considered. Katrina will also assess factors that could increase the likelihood of complications or affect recovery.

Particular care is needed where there are active skin conditions, a tendency towards abnormal scarring, pigmentation concerns or relevant implanted medical devices.

There may be occasions when conventional microneedling, another skin treatment or no treatment is the more appropriate recommendation.

The aim is to establish whether RF microneedling offers a reasonable approach to your concern, rather than assuming that every patient needs a more intensive treatment.

Your consultation

Your consultation is an opportunity to explain the changes you have noticed in your skin and what you would like to improve.

Katrina will assess your skin type, texture, firmness and the specific areas of concern. Your medical history, medication, previous aesthetic procedures, healing response and any history of pigmentation changes or scarring will also be discussed.

If RF microneedling is suitable, Katrina will explain the proposed treatment area, expected course, realistic results, recovery, risks and cost.

You do not need to decide on a particular treatment depth, number of sessions or device setting before your appointment. These decisions should follow assessment.

What to expect

A clear explanation of your appointment, from preparation to follow-up.

01 · BEFORE YOUR VISIT

Preparing for care

Please provide an accurate medical history and details of any medication, allergies, previous aesthetic procedures or skin reactions.

Let us know about active skin irritation, infections, recent sun exposure, previous scarring, implanted medical devices or any recent changes to the treatment area.

Katrina will advise whether you need to adjust your skincare routine before treatment, particularly where retinoids, exfoliating acids or other active products are being used.

02 · DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT

Your appointment

Katrina will assess your skin and confirm the treatment area and recommended approach before beginning.

The skin is prepared, and appropriate comfort measures may be used. A specialist device then delivers radiofrequency energy through fine needles at controlled depths within the skin.

Treatment settings are selected according to the area, skin characteristics and intended outcome.

You may experience pressure, warmth or discomfort during treatment. Your comfort and skin response will be monitored throughout.

03 · AFTER YOUR VISIT

Support afterwards

The treated skin may appear red, swollen or feel warm and sensitive immediately afterwards. Small pinpoint marks, temporary dryness or changes in texture may also occur during recovery.

You will receive aftercare guidance explaining how to care for the treated area and which skincare products or activities should be temporarily avoided.

Where a course is recommended, further appointments will be planned around your skin’s response and recovery. Any improvement is expected to develop gradually rather than being fully visible immediately after treatment.

Recovery & aftercare

Redness, warmth, swelling and sensitivity are common following RF microneedling. Some patients may also experience pinpoint marks, dryness, temporary roughness or minor bruising. Recovery varies depending on the treatment settings, area treated and individual skin response.

Your skin may be more sensitive than usual while it recovers. You will be given individual aftercare instructions, which may include using gentle skincare, avoiding exfoliating or irritating products and temporarily limiting strenuous exercise, swimming and excessive heat.

Appropriate sun protection is particularly important during recovery, as recently treated skin may be more vulnerable to irritation and pigmentation changes.

RF microneedling is intended to produce gradual changes in skin quality. Improvements, where achieved, may develop over several weeks or months as the skin responds to treatment. Some concerns may require a planned course, and results vary between individuals.

Avoid judging the final outcome while the skin is still recovering. If you experience unexpected symptoms or have concerns about healing, contact Esti-Med promptly for advice.

Risks & considerations

RF microneedling combines needle penetration with controlled heating of the skin. Common temporary effects include redness, swelling, tenderness, warmth, dryness and pinpoint bleeding or bruising.

Less common complications can include prolonged inflammation, infection, changes in skin pigmentation, blistering, burns or scarring. Unintended injury to deeper tissues, including unwanted fat loss or nerve injury, has also been reported following some radiofrequency microneedling procedures.

The depth of treatment, radiofrequency settings, anatomical area and individual skin characteristics all influence the potential risks. Particular consideration is needed for patients with a history of pigmentation problems, abnormal scarring, certain medical conditions or implanted electronic medical devices.

RF microneedling is not suitable for everyone. The treatment should only be recommended following an appropriate assessment, with settings and treatment areas selected according to individual suitability.

Katrina will explain the risks and limitations relevant to your proposed treatment before you decide whether to proceed. Significant pain, blistering, unusual skin changes or other concerning symptoms following treatment should be assessed promptly.

Treatment options & pricing

Your consultation helps establish which areas may be appropriate for RF microneedling and whether a single treatment or planned course is recommended.

Prices vary according to the treatment area and the individual treatment plan.

Treatment Price

Your questions, answered

RF microneedling combines fine needles with radiofrequency energy. The needles deliver controlled energy into the targeted skin tissue to encourage processes associated with skin repair and collagen remodelling.

Conventional microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. RF microneedling also delivers radiofrequency energy through the needles, producing a heating effect within the targeted tissue. They are different procedures with different treatment considerations and risks.

It may be considered for certain types of post-acne textural scarring. The type, depth and extent of the scars influence whether treatment is appropriate and what improvement may be realistic.

RF microneedling may improve the appearance of mild skin laxity in suitable patients. However, it cannot be expected to correct significant loose skin or reproduce the effects of surgical procedures.

You may experience pressure, warmth or discomfort during treatment. Appropriate comfort measures can be discussed, but the procedure should not be described as completely pain-free.

This depends on your skin, treatment area and concern. Some patients may be advised to have a course, while others may have a different treatment plan. Katrina will explain what is appropriate following assessment.

Recovery varies depending on the treatment area, intensity and individual response. Redness, swelling and sensitivity may occur initially, and some people experience longer-lasting dryness or skin changes while the area settles.

Any improvement generally develops gradually as the skin responds to treatment. The timing and extent of changes vary, and more than one session may be recommended.

RF microneedling may be considered for different skin tones, but suitability and treatment settings require careful assessment. Pigmentation changes remain a possible complication, particularly in skin prone to post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Potentially. It may form part of a wider skin treatment plan, but procedures such as chemical peels, conventional microneedling or laser treatment need appropriate spacing and assessment to allow for recovery.

CLINICALLY LED. PERSONALLY DELIVERED.

Care built around you

RF microneedling involves more than selecting a treatment depth or increasing the amount of energy delivered into the skin.

Understanding the treatment area, underlying anatomy, individual risk factors and the response of different skin types is essential to deciding whether the procedure is appropriate.

As a Registered Nurse and Independent Nurse Prescriber, Katrina brings clinical assessment and professional accountability into the treatment process. Your medical history, skin condition, previous treatments and expectations are considered before recommending a treatment plan.

The aim is not to make treatment as intensive as possible. It is to select a considered approach that balances potential improvement with the risks and limitations relevant to your skin.

Good treatment begins with good judgement.
