About Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to add or restore volume beneath the skin.

Many modern fillers are based on hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found within the body that helps attract and retain moisture. Different filler formulations have different characteristics, allowing treatment to be planned according to the area being treated and the effect being sought.

Dermal filler treatment should not simply be about adding volume. Used carefully, it can help restore proportion, support facial structure and soften some of the changes that occur naturally with ageing.

At Esti-Med, the aim is a result that feels balanced with the rest of your features rather than noticeably “filled”.

What may it help with?

Dermal fillers may be considered for:

  • Loss of facial volume
  • Reduced cheek or jawline definition
  • Lip shape and volume
  • Chin balance and projection
  • Deeper lines and folds

The most appropriate approach depends on your individual anatomy, proportions and treatment goals.

GOOD TREATMENT BEGINS WITH GOOD JUDGEMENT

Is this right for you?

Dermal filler treatment requires more than choosing a product and deciding where to inject.

Before recommending treatment, Katrina considers your medical history, facial anatomy, existing proportions, skin and tissue quality, previous aesthetic treatments and the outcome you are hoping to achieve.

The consultation is also an opportunity to discuss whether filler is actually the most appropriate option.

Sometimes the safest or most effective recommendation may be to use less product than expected, treat a different area, consider another treatment or avoid treatment altogether.

That consultation-first approach is central to Esti-Med: treatment should follow assessment rather than simply being selected from a menu.

Your consultation

Your appointment begins with a review of the area being considered and confirmation of the treatment plan.

The skin is prepared and the filler is then placed carefully using an injection technique appropriate for the area being treated. Different areas may require different approaches, and the amount used is determined by the desired result and your individual anatomy rather than a standard formula.

Comfort measures may be used where appropriate.

Once treatment is complete, the area is assessed and you will be given aftercare guidance before leaving the clinic.

The aim is controlled, considered treatment rather than using more filler simply because it is available.

What to expect

A clear explanation of your appointment, from preparation to follow-up.

01 · BEFORE YOUR VISIT

Preparing for care

You do not need to know exactly which area or how much filler you may need before attending. Start with what you have noticed and what you would like to improve.

Please provide an accurate medical history and details of any medication, supplements or previous aesthetic treatments. If anything changes before your appointment, let us know.

02 · DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT

Your appointment

Katrina will assess your facial anatomy, proportions and the areas you would like to address before discussing whether dermal filler is appropriate.

If treatment is recommended, the proposed approach, expected outcome, potential side effects and aftercare will be explained before you decide whether to proceed.

Treatment is planned around your individual anatomy rather than simply using a predetermined amount of filler.

03 · AFTER YOUR VISIT

Support afterwards

You will receive clear aftercare guidance, including what to expect as any swelling, tenderness or bruising settles.

If you have any concerns following treatment, you can contact Esti-Med for advice. Where appropriate, a review can be arranged once the area has had time to settle properly.

Recovery & aftercare

Some swelling, tenderness, redness or bruising can occur after dermal filler treatment, and this may be more noticeable in certain areas such as the lips. These effects are usually temporary and settle gradually as the treated area recovers.

You will be given clear aftercare guidance following your appointment, including advice on touching the area, exercise, heat exposure and other activities that may need to be avoided for a short period. It is important to allow the area time to settle before judging the final result. If anything feels unusual or you have concerns following treatment, you should contact Esti-Med for advice.

Risks & considerations

Dermal filler treatment carries potential risks as well as expected temporary side effects. These can include swelling, bruising, tenderness and temporary unevenness while the area settles. Less common complications can include prolonged swelling, lumps, infection, inflammatory reactions or an unwanted aesthetic result.

A rare but important complication can occur if filler affects the blood supply to surrounding tissue. This requires prompt recognition and treatment, which is why careful assessment, appropriate technique and clinical judgement are important. The risks relevant to your treatment area will be discussed before treatment so that you can make an informed decision.

Your questions, answered

They should not have to. Esti-Med’s approach is based on proportion, restraint and individual assessment. The aim is to enhance or restore rather than noticeably change your appearance.

There is no standard amount that is right for everybody. The appropriate amount depends on your anatomy, the area being treated, previous treatment and what you are hoping to achieve. This is assessed before treatment.

Most commonly used dermal fillers are temporary. How long a result lasts varies depending on the treatment area, the filler used and individual factors such as metabolism.

You may feel some discomfort during injection. The level of discomfort varies depending on the treatment area and individual sensitivity. Comfort measures may be used where appropriate.

Some swelling is normal following treatment and can vary considerably between people and treatment areas. It usually reduces as the area settles, although certain areas may remain visibly swollen for longer.

Some hyaluronic-acid-based fillers can be dissolved using an appropriate prescription treatment when clinically indicated. Whether this is suitable depends on the filler used and the circumstances, so assessment is required.

Possibly, but previous treatment needs to be considered carefully. You should tell Katrina what treatments you have previously had, including the areas treated, approximate dates and products if known.

Potentially, but more is not automatically better. It is usually preferable to assess how the initial treatment has settled before deciding whether further treatment would be appropriate.

Contact Esti-Med if you experience anything unexpected or concerning following treatment. Increasing pain, unusual colour changes to the skin, visual symptoms or rapidly worsening symptoms should be reported promptly.

Care built around you

Dermal filler treatment is not simply about adding volume. Katrina considers your facial anatomy, proportions, medical history, previous aesthetic treatment and what you would like to achieve before recommending whether filler is appropriate.

Where treatment is suitable, the approach is planned around your individual features rather than following a standard formula. The aim is to restore or enhance in a way that feels balanced, considered and appropriate for you.

Just as importantly, consultation gives Katrina the opportunity to advise when filler may not be the best option, or when another approach may be more suitable.
