UNDERSTANDING YOUR OPTIONS
A considered approach to PRP treatment
Platelet Rich Plasma, often shortened to PRP, is prepared using a small sample of your own blood. The sample is processed to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich component, which is then used in the area being treated.
PRP may be considered as part of a skin rejuvenation plan or for some people concerned about hair thinning. The way treatment is performed and the expected outcome differ depending on whether the face or scalp is being treated.
PRP is not intended to create facial volume in the way a dermal filler does. For skin, the focus is generally on supporting skin quality and texture. For the scalp, treatment may be considered where hair thinning is the main concern.
At Esti-Med, the decision to recommend PRP is based on assessment rather than assuming it is the right treatment simply because it uses your own blood.
What may it help with?
PRP may be considered where the aim is to support skin quality or address certain types of hair thinning as part of an appropriate treatment plan.
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Fine lines and skin texture
- Overall skin quality
- Reduced skin firmness
- Hair thinning or reduced hair density
The most appropriate approach depends on the area being treated, the underlying concern and whether PRP is suitable for you.
GOOD TREATMENT BEGINS WITH GOOD JUDGEMENT
Is this right for you?
PRP may be suitable for some adults looking to improve aspects of skin quality or explore treatment for hair thinning.
Suitability depends on your medical history, the area being treated, the nature of your concern and your expectations from treatment. For scalp treatment in particular, understanding why hair thinning is occurring can be important before deciding whether PRP is appropriate.
There may be situations where another treatment, further investigation or no treatment is the more appropriate recommendation.
Your consultation
Your consultation is an opportunity to discuss the changes you have noticed and what you would like to improve.
Katrina will review your medical history, relevant medication and previous treatments before assessing the face or scalp area being considered. Where hair thinning is the concern, the pattern and history of hair loss may also need to be considered.
If PRP is recommended, Katrina will explain the proposed treatment plan, likely number of sessions, expected outcome, limitations, recovery, risks and cost before you decide whether to proceed.
What to expect
A clear explanation of your appointment, from preparation to follow-up.
01 · BEFORE YOUR VISIT
Preparing for care
Please provide an accurate medical history and details of any medication, supplements or relevant previous treatment. Let us know if your health or medication changes before your appointment.
You do not need to decide in advance how many treatments you require. Your treatment plan will be discussed following assessment.
02 · DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT
Your appointment
A small amount of blood is taken and processed to separate the platelet-rich component required for treatment.
Once prepared, the PRP is administered to the agreed treatment area using an appropriate technique for the face or scalp.
The treatment approach and areas being treated will be based on your individual assessment rather than following the same protocol for every patient.
03 · AFTER YOUR VISIT
Support afterwards
Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling, bruising or sensitivity can occur following treatment. Scalp treatment may also leave the area feeling temporarily tender.
You will receive clear aftercare advice and information about what to expect as the area settles.
Where a course of PRP is recommended, the timing of further sessions and any review will be discussed as part of your treatment plan.
Recovery & aftercare
Some redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur after PRP treatment. Where the scalp is treated, temporary sensitivity or tenderness around the injection sites may also occur.
You will be given individual aftercare advice following your appointment. This may include avoiding unnecessary touching of the treated area, strenuous exercise, excessive heat and certain skin or hair treatments for a short period.
PRP results should not be judged immediately after treatment. Any improvement develops gradually, and the timing will vary according to the area being treated, your individual response and whether treatment forms part of a planned course.
If you experience anything unexpected or have concerns following treatment, contact Esti-Med for advice.
Risks & considerations
PRP involves both taking a blood sample and administering the prepared plasma back into the treatment area. Temporary effects can include bruising or discomfort from the blood draw as well as redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising at the treatment site.
Less common complications can include infection, prolonged inflammation or an unexpected reaction in the treated area. Scalp treatment can also cause temporary discomfort or sensitivity.
Although PRP is prepared from your own blood, this does not mean the treatment is completely without risk or suitable for everyone. Your medical history, medication and general suitability still need to be considered before treatment.
The risks and limitations relevant to your treatment will be discussed as part of the consultation and consent process.
Treatment options & pricing
Your consultation helps establish whether PRP is appropriate and what treatment plan may be suitable. The following prices provide a guide.
| Treatment | Price |
|---|---|
| PRP – Face | £250 |
| PRP – Scalp | £250 |
The number and timing of treatments will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan.
Any recommended course and the full cost will be explained before you decide whether to proceed.
Your questions, answered

CLINICALLY LED. PERSONALLY DELIVERED.
Care built around you
PRP is often described as a regenerative treatment, but the fact that it uses your own blood does not automatically make it the right option for every concern.
As a Registered Nurse and Independent Nurse Prescriber, Katrina approaches PRP through clinical assessment, looking at your medical history, treatment area and what you would realistically like to achieve before recommending whether treatment is appropriate.
Where PRP is suitable, the treatment plan should have a clear purpose and realistic expectations rather than relying on broad claims about rejuvenation or regeneration.
Refine. Restore. Rejuvenate.
