Consultation for Filler Dissolving
Clinician-led assessment for concerns following previous dermal filler treatment, with dissolving considered only where it is appropriate for the filler used, the area treated and your individual circumstances.
Filler dissolving may be considered where hyaluronic acid dermal filler has produced an unwanted result, where product remains from previous treatment or where a clinical concern needs assessment. At Esti-Med, Katrina will first establish what has been treated, when treatment took place and what you are currently experiencing before recommending the next step.

A considered approach to filler dissolving
Filler dissolving is used specifically for suitable hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. It involves using an enzyme that breaks down the filler so that it can be absorbed by the body.
There are different reasons someone may consider dissolving filler. These can include an unwanted aesthetic result, asymmetry, migration, persistent lumps or deciding that previous filler no longer suits the result they want.
Not every concern following filler requires dissolving, and not every type of filler can be treated in this way. Sometimes allowing swelling to settle, reviewing the area or taking a different approach may be more appropriate.
At Esti-Med, the decision begins with understanding what has previously been injected and assessing the area rather than automatically proceeding with treatment.
What may it help with?
Filler dissolving may be considered where previous hyaluronic acid filler has produced an unwanted result or where the area requires clinical reassessment.
- Unwanted or excessive filler volume
- Filler migration
- Asymmetry following previous filler
- Persistent lumps or irregularity
- Previous filler that no longer suits your treatment goals
Whether dissolving is appropriate depends on the filler previously used, the area being assessed and the reason you are considering treatment.
GOOD TREATMENT BEGINS WITH GOOD JUDGEMENT
Is this right for you?
Filler dissolving may be appropriate if you have previously had hyaluronic acid dermal filler and would like an unwanted result assessed or corrected.
Katrina will consider what product was used, when and where it was injected, how the area has changed and whether there are any current symptoms or clinical concerns.
If you know which filler was previously used, bringing this information to your appointment can be helpful. Where the product is unknown, further consideration may be needed before treatment is recommended.
There are also occasions where dissolving is not the appropriate next step. The aim of the consultation is to establish this before further treatment is undertaken.
Your consultation
Your consultation gives Katrina the opportunity to assess the treated area and understand what you are unhappy or concerned about.
You will be asked about previous filler treatment, including the product used where known, the amount injected, when treatment took place and any subsequent treatments to the area. Your medical history, medication, allergies and previous reactions will also be reviewed.
Katrina will then explain whether dissolving appears appropriate, what can realistically be achieved and whether treatment is likely to require more than one session.
If treatment is recommended, the expected response, limitations, risks, recovery and cost will be discussed before you decide whether to proceed.
What to expect
A clear explanation of your appointment, from preparation to follow-up.
01 · BEFORE YOUR VISIT
Preparing for care
If possible, bring details of any previous filler treatment, including the product used, treatment date and area treated.
Please provide an accurate medical history and let us know about medication, allergies, previous reactions and any recent changes to the area being assessed.
If you are experiencing significant pain, unusual skin colour changes, visual symptoms or rapidly worsening symptoms following recent filler treatment, seek urgent clinical advice rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
02 · DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT
Your appointment
Katrina will assess the area and discuss the result you are concerned about before deciding whether dissolving is appropriate.
Where treatment is suitable, an appropriate dissolving agent is carefully administered to the selected area. The amount and placement depend on the location and extent of the filler being treated.
It is not always possible or desirable to remove every trace of filler in a single appointment, and a staged approach may sometimes be more appropriate.
03 · AFTER YOUR VISIT
Support afterwards
Swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising can occur following treatment and may temporarily make the area look different before it settles.
You will receive clear aftercare advice and information about what to expect. A review may be recommended before deciding whether further dissolving or any future filler treatment should be considered.
If you are concerned about your recovery, Esti-Med should be your first point of contact.
Recovery & aftercare
Temporary swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising can occur after filler dissolving. The appearance of the area immediately afterwards does not necessarily represent the final result, particularly where swelling is present.
You will be given individual aftercare advice following treatment. This may include avoiding unnecessary pressure or rubbing of the area, strenuous exercise, excessive heat and certain facial or skin treatments for a short period.
The area should be allowed to settle before deciding whether further dissolving or replacement filler is appropriate. Where additional treatment is being considered, Katrina will advise on suitable timing following review.
Contact Esti-Med if anything feels unusual or if you have concerns during recovery.
Risks & considerations
Filler dissolving is a medical aesthetic procedure and can cause temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising or discomfort around the treated area.
Other possible effects can include unevenness as filler breaks down, incomplete dissolving or the need for further treatment. The final appearance can also be different from how the area looked before the original filler was placed.
Allergic reactions to the medication used for dissolving are possible and, although uncommon, can occasionally be serious. Your medical history, previous reactions and individual risk factors therefore need to be considered before treatment.
Filler dissolving only works on suitable hyaluronic acid fillers and cannot be assumed to correct every problem associated with previous injectable treatment.
The risks and limitations relevant to you will be explained during your consultation before any treatment is undertaken.
Treatment options & pricing
The amount of treatment required depends on the area being assessed, the previous filler and the extent of correction required.
| Treatment | Price |
|---|---|
| Filler Dissolving | From £100 |
Your treatment plan and final cost will be confirmed following assessment. More than one session may sometimes be required depending on the amount and location of filler being treated.

Care built around you
Deciding to dissolve filler is not simply the reverse of having filler placed. The reason for the concern, the product previously used, the anatomy of the area and what you would like to achieve afterwards all need to be considered.
As a Registered Nurse and Independent Nurse Prescriber, Katrina approaches filler concerns through clinical assessment and professional judgement before recommending further treatment.
Sometimes dissolving is appropriate. Sometimes allowing an area to settle, reviewing it again or deciding not to intervene immediately is the better option.
Good treatment also means knowing when not to treat.
Refine. Restore. Rejuvenate.
